Going Buggy!

Anger

Anger wears a cloak of fire
He enters your mind erasing all thoughts he finds

He can control you
giving you feelings, feelings and feelings
He has no house but your mind is his house

He is a tiny thing that is huge in your mind
Everything he can control is his
including you but he is just a feeling

- Severin Victor, age 9

Getting Past the Horror of School Shootings

Terror was heard and felt around the world
The pain seen on the faces of the innocent
Disturbing nightmares living on forever
Never getting the chance to say good–bye

The pain seen on the faces of the innocent
No one deserving the pain
Never getting the chance to say good–bye
Love and sorrow is all we feel

No one deserving the pain
Will there ever be a tomorrow?
For love and sorrow is all we feel
For sorrow is a way to say good-bye

Will there ever be a tomorrow?
For tomorrow, hope will bring a nicer day
For sorrow is a way to say good-bye
Moving on and overcoming fears

For tomorrow, hope will bring a nicer day
Tomorrow the nightmares will be gone with the tears
Moving on and overcoming fears
For a better life is what we shall pray

The Great

It's me, the great
the one who gets straight A's
the one you never have to worry about
because I always do the right thing
and I always am good and I always keep up
Look at me, so great
yes everyone, be just like me
I'm such a model person
I excel in whatever I do
if I want something, I make it happen

But I don't feel so great
and I don't mean like a cold or something
'cause you know, perfection has its mental price
and as all you strive to be like me
you really don't want to, I really don't want to
be me, so don't
so don't be perfect
'cause you can't let people down
you just have to keep going up
so don't you dare be jealous
I'd do anything to be in your place
no don't you dare be jealous
don't make the same mistake I did
just don't be like me...
like me, the great.

How/Why

How can you say you've done so much,
When you've done so little,
Or that you've done something,
When you haven't done anything

How can you stand there,
Telling untrue stories,
Making us believe untrue things,
Saying things you know are wrong,
Not only how, but why?
Why tell us lies & stories of false hope &
Even stories of no truth

Why say you've been around the world,
When you've only been to the next city,
Being unreal,
Lying,
Giving false hope, How and why do that,
To both you and me

Tell me the real stories,
Give me true hope,
Don't lie,
I'll love you for who you are,
Just show me and tell me the true things

Dream!

A dream is something no one can take.
A dream is something only you can make.
No one can steal, no one else can fake.
Take the chance. Raise the stake.
I have a dream to share,
I have plenty of dreams to spare.
Give a dream, take a dream.
Lots and lots of dreams.
I've got a dream.
You've got a dream.
Love's a dream.
Hope's a dream.
Life's a dream.
A dream!
Dreams!

Long Forgotten Stories Lost So Long Ago

I can see, see in the waters,
Past the crystalline surface that constantly shatters,
Past the soothing waves, past the gentle current,
Through to the past, and the stories that went,
Along, along through the continuum of Time,
Washed away into the water line,
Forgotten, lost, forever gone,
Until, a millenia past, so long,
Someone shall see those forgotten stories,
Of whispering winds and what an old tree sees,
Of willowy grass and glistening snow,
Of beaming suns and stars 'pearing slow,
An illustrious moon, just perching there,
Disappearing to give the sun his share,
One, only one, in many a decade,
Shall see, see past the dead tree's shade,
And see the long forgotten stories,
Be blessed be what this person sees,
Through the receding waters shy,
One lucky person was I...

Michael's Slug

Michael’s room was small and neat,
his bed was big and smelt of feet,
he kept a slug in a paper cup
and gave it grass and leaves to suck.

He called it John, he liked that name
And played with him out in the rain,
When it got too warm, in he’d run,
John didn’t like the boiling hot sun.

On a cold and rainy Tuesday morning
Michael’s mum with out any warning,
went into his room to clean and tidy,
which she normally did on a Friday.

She looked around and there she saw
a black, slimy shape creeping up the wall,
she quickly opened the window wide
and flicked the creature right out side.

Down he fell and landed with a bump,
He had stuck to the path in a messy lump
Around he looked, he didn’t move fast
And almost got squashed as a dog ran past.

He found a leaf and started to nibble
And did so with lots of spit and dribble,
He really enjoyed his morning snack,
But now must think of how to get back!

Balloons

Balloons are filled with air
Well of course they are
That is why they bounce around
But hopefully not too far
Sometimes they are helium ones
And float up to the air
And ones that aren't blown up fall down
It isn't fair

Pizza

When my tummy growls and calls
And I want something to eat
I don't reach out for lollies or sweets
But I know something you can't beat
I reach over for the telephone
I ring the pizza place
I order my favourite pizza
To stuff into my face

Ham, pineapple, cheese and bacon
I like onions too
So when people come to share
All I say is SHOO!!!

My Donkey

Today I bought a donkey
I called her Mary-Jane
And when I want to ride her
She caused me so much pain

My tooshy hurt from left to right
I think it broke in half
So now when people coment
I say it was my ASS!!!

Alone in the Dark

Alone, alone,
Alone in the dark,
Alone in the dark
I shall stay
Until someone rescues me
From my dismay.

Daddy...

Waking in the morning
I couldn't hardly wait
To start a new adventure
Never wanted to be late.

Tiny little feet
Running after you
Holding your hand
All the day thru.

Riding on the tractor
In the bright hot sun
Plowing in the field all day
What a day of fun!

Playing in the barnyard
With a critter or two
Didn't matter what we did
As long as I was with you.

Growing up with you
Was my heart's delight
Wish that you were here
To hug me "goodnight".

- Corky Ferguson

Horses

Horses are sweet,
and a very nice treat,
They keep neat,
So you don't need to sweep,
They run all day,
And might even come back in May,
But just hope it comes back today,
or at least someday,
They can run fast,
and never come last,
horses are great,
Now that's pretty straight.

Aliens in Disguise

My mom and dad are not what they seem
Their dull appearance is part of their scheme.
I know their plans, I know their techniques,
My parents are outer-space alien freaks.

They landed on Earth in space suits humongous,
Posing as grownups they now walk among us.
They deny this, but I know the truth,
They're here to enslave me and spoil my youth.

They deny that TV and fried foods have much worth,
They can not be human, they're not of this Earth.
I can not escape their alien gaze,
They're warping my mind with their alien ways.
For sinister plots this one's a gem,
They're bringing me up, to turn ME into THEM!

My Bunny

I like my bunny.
My bunny is funny.
He is in the Navy.
He looks like gravy.
His name is Brown.
He has a frown.

Lies

A big shameful lie,
seems far better to the eye.
In the long run the truth,
will bring a tear to many eyes.
Yet one untold lie,
will bring many tears to one eye.

Liza A, age 11
Dedicated to James Oliver, 1994

What Am I

I have hooves
Sometimes I live on a farm
I am not native to North America
I am used to ride on
What am I?

I wear a saddle a lot
Sometimes I am used to race with
I am a relative of the donkey and zebra
I am a big animal with a big brain
What am I?

A horse

- Aaron Wasserman-Olin

Who Am I?

I am man's closest relative
I am the largest living primate
I live on three active volcanos
I am big but shy
Who am I?

I attract lots of tourists
I live in Zaire, Uganda and Rawanda
I have thirty-two teeth
I live in a group
Who Am I?

A Mountain Gorilla

Remembering Daddy...

You were my hero
Not like all the rest
When it came to fathers
You always were the best.

You were a teacher
Like none I've ever known
Teaching that reaping comes
From the seeds that are sown.

You were my best pal
My first real friend
You remained that to me
Until the very end.

You were the man
To all others I would compare
You placed the stars in my eyes...
My husband keeps them there.

- Corky Ferguson

My Special Hero

When I was a baby
You would hold me in your arms
I felt love and tenderness
Keeping me safe from harm.

I would look into your eyes
And all the love I would see
How did I get so lucky
You were the dad chosen for me.

There is something special
About a father's love
Seems it was sent to me
From somewhere up above.

Our love is everlasting
I just wanted you to know
That you are my special hero
And wanted to tell you so.

- Corky Ferguson

Close At Hand

Whether on the mountains or over seas,
Back home a special girl is waiting for me.
I myself do not ask much
Only to hear her lovely voice
And to feel her gentle touch.
Though I am far from home,
I am not alone
for I have a picture of her in my heart
And on my mind
Helping me pass the time.
In every gentle breeze that passes by,
I hear her name
Hoping she still feels the same.

Not knowing how to tell my lady love,
Here I reside
Watching her from the realms up above.
I shall return not far from now,
Though I know not how.
Perhaps I could catch a ride on her wishing star,
And soar over the moon
Only to reappear in her room.
To have things back the way it used to be
In loving arms just her and me.

The Magic Between You and Me

Do you remember the leisurely walks along the brooks
Or the way we gave each other looks?
Who could forget the moonlit nights gazing at the stars.
When I am with you, fireworks burst up in the skies.
You opened up my eyes giving life new meaning.
It's like a dream come true whenever I'm with you,
A fairy tale that came out of the blue starting love anew.

How it happened, I can not begin to explain,
but I feel it has to do with the magic between you and me.
If it's truly make-believe, may I never wake from this dream.
The way you believe in me sets my heart with glee.
That magic should ever burn out and relinquish flame.
We will do all we can so our love will not suffer in vain.
May our love stay strong forever long.

- Chiefy Townsend

Thinking of You

My valentine is always on my mind
Thinking of her has been a pastime of mine.
Each time I look at her, I get lost in her eyes
Realizing I love her for what's inside.
I see deep into her heart
Knowing that nothing can keep us apart.

Stronger and deeper my love has grown.
Brighter and purer my heart has shown.
This way I have never felt.
I think my heart may just melt.
So believe me when I say my love for you is true
Sitting here just thinking of you.
