Homegrown Verse 4

Grapes!

Oh how I went picking grapes one day,
Oh how I went picking grapes,
Oh how I picked them all away
Oh when I went picking grapes!

- Kendra Teal, age 11, 1996

Mist

Mist is a thing that comes in the dark.
Mist is a thing of evil.
Mist is a thing that glows in the moon.
Mist is a thing people want to flee soon.
Mist is a thing that gives you the chills.
Watch out behind you!
Mist has its own will.

- Billy Wallace, age 11

Dream~~~&~~~Nightmare

I am alone
I am alone in this cold dark hearted world
I can't stop my self
I can't fake what I am feeling
I hope this is only a dream.....

Then why have I not woken up yet?
Life is only a dream to some people
For me it's a nightmare

- Riptide Hernaez

The Silliest Birthday Poem Of All

Today my dad is forty years old
I am 'gonna buy him a mighty sword

And a kingdom with a hoard of horses
That chomp up all the golf courses

With knights and evil sorcerors
and a pair of giant golfers

Who wear purple and blue shoes
While the coyotes snooze with the blues.

- Karen De Loy, age 6

The Chocolate Birthday Cake

With vanillia frosting
And candles on top and
Vanilla icing all around
And a funny clown
To have around
To blow up balloons
Shaped like elephants
And hippos too
PRESENTS FOR EVERYONE!
Blow out the candles and
Make a wish, and put the cake
In a big, big dish

- Karen De Loy, age 6

Cookies Are Better Than Pies

Roses are red
Cookies are brown
Everyday I play
On the playground

And best of all
There are cookies in the jar
Sometimes round
The cookies are

Some pies are orange
And some pies are white
Cookies are better
To eat at night

- Karen De Loy, age 6

Positively Worried

Have you ever tried worrying-
positively
It's really fun and
easy, you see

Instead of thinking:
Oh dear, Oh dread,
Worry about good things
happening instead,

Bummer- my team is
number one,
Rats- ice cream for
dinner again

Dog gone it-
no homework tonight,
Darn it-
I got them all right

I can do anything-
I'm certain I could,
I can't take anymore-
I'm feeling so good.

- Doug De Loy, adult

By the Shore
(in the year of 1943)

I was sitting by the shore,
All alone.
I still remember yesterday,
We were sitting here,
Together,
Watching the waves hitted the shore,
Over and over.
But now you've went to that horrible place,
The battlefield,
And left me all alone here watching the waves,
And thinking of you?

Rememberance Day

Bright red poppies in memory of the dead
now you can only picture those people up in our head
Mines, bombs in the war
Don't you wish you could see those people just once more?

A Winter Night on the Mountain

The wind is roaring at us,
As me and my partner went through.
We are in a crisis,
'cause we have no food left.
Tonight it's exceptionally cold,
For a night in July.
So I called it,
The winter night.
Luckily, we found a cave,
So we scrumbled in,
And huddle together to get warm.
We watched the wild storm,
Until it began to faded away.
After the storm,
The sky was so clear that it seems like it's a piece of glass,
A big, polished glass.
And with the rising sun,
Golden light filled the sky.
It was the most amazing sight I've ever seen.

My Favorite Expression

There are many expressions
many phrases to say,
like "how are you"
or "have a good day".
But out of all the expressions,
some silly, some true,
my favorite expression
is "I love you!"

- Alison Joy Rice, age 11

Hey Moon

Hey moon can we live on you soon,
Maybe we can when we have flying cars,
Flying cars that go to Mars without blowing up in the
atmosphere,
But maybe we couldn't,
And maybe we shouldn't,
'Cause then the moon would get mad,
And I would be sad,
Because I like the moon,
So maybe we shouldn't live on the moon too soon.

- Aaron Prosser, 6th grade

Space

What do you think of space?
Black? Huge?
And maybe,
Mysterious?
I do think space should have its own secret,
Just like we have secrets ourselves.
Although people always trying to learn space's secret,
I believed when it's the right time,
Space will let us know.

Country Road

No matter what time in the year it is,
the little road by my little cottage was always golden,
In my heart.
Though sometimes the season gave it some colors,
For it not looking so dull.
In spring,
It is covered with a shade of purple, and red, and pink,
The beautiful bloosoms of spring
But it is still golden for me.
In summer,
The green ocean flooded the path,
Maybe sometimes several flowers like several little boats in an ocean,
I can still see the golden color in it.
In fall,
The trees by the side starting to shake off their leaves,
giving the little path a golden cover,
It is my best time of the year.
In winter,
The branches of the tree are covered with snow,
And the path, too.
But it's still that little golden path I liked.
