The Sea Party Look out, my love, and smell the air, And let the wind blow through your hair. The sun is low on the deep blue sea, So come and see the shore with me. The crabs all dance around the water's rim, And the fish jump up and sing with them. The boats are slowly heading home, And the tide is high while the oceans foam. And when the sharks all swim away, And asleep in bed the eels all lay, The real bright corals begin to sprout, A party starts when the blow fish shout. The fun begins below the waves, And the small fish all leave their caves. The snails begin to start a beat, And the lobsters tap all their feet. The whales join in and sing their song, And the party goes on all night long. Then at the first sign of day, They all swim away. Sleep, my love, and I'll tuck you in tight, And dream of the sea all through the night. - Brandon, age 13 Spring and Fall There is a time called Spring. It's really a wonderful thing. Birds sing and flowers bloom, And all the little birds fly around; zoom, zoom. The leaves fall in the Fall of the year. It gives the fish a very big fear To see all the leaves fall down and down Onto the pond, Onto the ground. - Allan, age 12 Waves Hear the waves crash on the shore. They don't stop; they go on forever more. Watch them move the shells around Upon the brown-colored ground. They pull the ship from the sea, Then make it come towards me. I hear them crashing all night long And listen to their fancy song. Can't you hear them keep the beat As they crash upon your feet? They go on forever more, Just above the ocean floor. - Morgan, age 12 Pain People standing all around With their heads hung towards the ground, Though all the hurt they feel right now, They silently make a solemn vow To never forget their fallen friend, And remember him to the very end. - Jarrod, age 13 Nature's Paradise In the rain forest, birds fly around. Many animals wander on the ground. The humid air creates a mist, Beautiful flowers and trees grow up tall. Why do we have to destroy them all? - Erica, age 13 Blue Cold A poor family on the beach On a dark stormy day With nowhere else to stay Clothes of rags And bones that sag Cold and stormy it is Not knowing how long you'll live. Ocean of fright Makes no light For the ocean is blue cold. - Michael, age 12 The Man Up Above The Man up above Gave us peace and love, Gave us flowers and trees And the rolling seas Did the Man up above. The Man in the sky Did not make us to lie. He brought us to birth To show love on the Earth, Did the Man in the sky. The Man up above Sent His Son down to love. He healed the lame, And died for us in the name Of the Man up above. - Emily, age 12 Grandma I was outside having fun, Playing under the flourescent sun, When the sunlight turned to rain, And my heart swelled up with pain. I cried all the way, As my whole family did that day. And I won't forget the sight When she came to me that night. She said, "Don't worry anymore", Then she floated out the door. I still think about the place, The last time I saw her face, And how I lost all my fright Because I knew she was alright. My brother saw her, too. He says she spoke and then she flew Way up, Into the heavens in the sky so blue. - Dustin, age 12 O, Wonderful Lion A lion is full of grace, Even though you might not see it in his face. You never know if he'll be mean or if he'll be kind, Because you can never read a lion's mind. These beasts of the world are very smart. I know our God who created them made a work of art. We all know lions are very rare. Try to look at them if you dare. - Jenna, age 13 What Lies On the Unknown Road As I ride on my horse on this rocky road, I wonder what lies on this unknown road. Then I see the dragon; he comes out with a flash. I pull out my mighty spear with a clash. I stab and I jab at the dragon's head Until I know for sure that he is dead. I know why people don't go on this road. They were afraid of the dragon of this unknown road. - Adam, age 13 Death Death is pitch black. It tastes like sour milk. It sounds like a quieting of the wind. It smells like rotten eggs and feels like the coldness of space. - Brady, age 13 It's Hard to Stand Up With a Car On Your Head Standing is not an easy thing to do When you have a car on top of you. This car on my head is hard to take; It's very heavy, for goodness sake. My legs are wobbly and my neck is stiff. I feel like I've just fallen off a cliff. I'm straining myself to stand up straight. This car is really a lot of weight. Engine, wheels, seats and all- I'm really just about to fall. If someone would take over, they'd be just a saint. I am really just about to faint. - Marianne, age 12 Death Death is a blackness about to swallow you up. It tastes like blood in your mouth. It smells like gunpowder in the night. It sounds like a gunshot in the wind and feels like a fire in your body. - James, age 13 Fear Fear is a sickly yellow. It tatses bitter and dry. It sounds like a scream in the night. It smells putrid and thick and fells like a bone-chilling cold. - Andrew, age 12 Desire Desire is like a deep shade of luscious purple. It tastes like a rich morsel of chocolate. It sounds like the density between two people when they are apart. It smells like the thickness of the morning fog And feels like a longing to touch the stars. - Brittany, age 12 |
